Cosmetics are anything considered to enhance beauty
or help to complement one’s beauty. Cosmetics can include makeup, perfume,
lotion and nail polish. Physical appearance and sexual appeal is part of a society
that places a priority over looks. Money is poured into advertising into weight
loss, cosmetics and diets that it is hard to know which product is the best
product for an individual.
This fact is prevalent especially in the cosmetics
industry. In fact in the United States alone consumers spend roughly $10
billion annually. Obviously, there is an obsession to look beautiful because
society dictates what is hot and what is not. However, the cost for beauty also
comes with a price. Many of the major cosmetics companies conceal the
ingredients that harm the skin in the long run. Some of these toxic chemicals
are informed in this article. Many of these other chemicals are not listed in
this article.
Dangerous
Chemicals In Makeup – Antibacterials
Anti-bacterials are commonly found in many products
such as hand soaps, deodorants, toothpastes and body washes. Generally, anti –
bacterials are absorbed in the skin. Associated with anti – bacterials is an
anti-fungal agent known as triclosan which is secreted in breast milk. Both
these chemicals are toxic or carcinogenic.
One study found that anti – bacterials may interfere
with the functioning of testosterone in cells. Also, anti - bacterials can
increase the susceptibility to infection because it kills off the ‘good’
protective bacteria. Hence, it can increase the rate of development of
resistant strains of bacteria.
Dangerous
Chemicals In Makeup – Diethanolamine
Diethanolamine is a contaminant associated with a
cocamide DEA and lauramide DEA. This chemical is commonly found in emulsifiers
and foaming agents such shampoos, shaving creams, moisturizers and baby washes.
The harm of this chemical is that upon contact with
the skin it is immediately absorbed. It can act as a carcinogen and can be
converted to nitrosamine – another carcinogenic. Also, this chemical disrupts
hormones and disrupts the body of choline needed for fetal brain development.
Dangerous
Chemicals In Makeup – Formaldehyde
The dangerous thing about this chemical is that most
of the time it isn’t listed in the ingredients. Formaldehyde is commonly used
as a disinfectant and preservative in a variety of products such as nail
polish, soap, deodorant, shaving cream, eyelash adhesive and shampoo.
The health concerns that result from having
formaldehyde in cosmetics is it can cause respiratory tract and eye irritation,
cancer, immune system damage, genetic damage and triggering asthma.
Dangerous
Chemicals In Makeup – Fragrance
Used to give a scent towards many cosmetics, the
name is used to indicate any number of chemicals in a personal care product.
But, the warning about most fragrances are that they are toxic associated with
phthalates. Phthalates can act as obesogens – known to cause obesity – and may
otherwise disrupt normal reproductive health. Furthermore, phthalates may cause
developmental defects and delays.
Dangerous
Chemicals In Makeup – The Solution
Many additives are added towards cosmetics to
preserve the product. However, there are ways to protect the skin while
retaining the youthful look. Unlike some moisturizers that may contain some of
these toxic chemicals, there is a creamy face cleanser that has no artificial
colors, fragrances or additives. Only an organic product could eliminate the
need for these harmful chemicals while massaging away dead skin cells, remove
excess dirt and remove excess oil all while acting as an effective makeup
remover and shaving cream.
But, which organic product can do all of this? And,
are all organic products made the same?
I am here to tell you that not all organic products
are made to be the same. Most organic products contain fragrances, but with a
product called Moringa it eliminates the need for these other additives. The
reason is that Moringa is an organic plant only found in the Himalayans grown
to a specific perfection that allows it to benefit from its 90+ verifiable
vitamins and minerals. These vitamins and minerals are known to “turn back the
hands of time” allowing the appearance of youthful skin.
